19 Oct How Working from Home is Empowering Women
Society and the workplace have both come a long way in the past decade. Today, women can run successful businesses while simultaneously taking care of their family’s needs. Work from home opportunities have particularly empowered stay-at-home mothers and housewives in several ways. Here are some of them:
1. Financial Security
The most important way that working from home empowers women is through the financial stability and independence it provides them. The money they earn from their home businesses serves as an additional revenue stream for the family.
Most importantly, they don’t need to rely on anyone else for their financial needs. There’s also a deep sense of satisfaction that comes with earning your own money.
2. Personal and Professional Growth
As per a survey, homeworkers rated their productivity as 7.7 out of 10. In contrast, office goers rated their productivity at 6.5 on a scale of 10.
When compared to a typical office job, remote work presents women with a different kind of personal and professional independence. It’s an empowering feeling being your own boss and working flexible hours.
Such opportunities allow homeworkers to grow personally and professionally as they learn to maintain a work-life balance. It polishes their time-management, communication, and organisational skills too.
3. More time with the family
The biggest advantage of a home-based office set up is the flexible hours it allows women to keep. With no long commutes and early morning hustles to worry about, they have more time to spend with their family.
They can take time out to deal with pressing family matters like looking after their child when he/she is ill and do not have to worry about taking leave when they have important errands to run.
This flexibility is one of the top reasons why 79% of the surveyed knowledge workers claimed they’d leave their full-time employment. This is under the premise that they were offered a full-time remote position that had the same pay.
4. A sense of control and contentment
Working from home gives women a sense of control over their own destinies. There’s a sense of accomplishment that comes from being a successful home-based entrepreneur. It allows women to be their own boss, earn their own money, keep their own hours and still manage to look after their family.
Such women serve as role models for their own children as well as their peers. People look up to them and respect them for being able to juggle their work alongside their family.
5. Better health and lifestyle
Working remotely helps lead a less stressful life. No more worrying about the morning rush hour, office politics or having to call in sick. Even if you’re feeling under the weather, you can easily take a nap and get back to work when you’re feeling up to it.
Home offices also offer a less stressful work environment and allow us to eat healthier, fresh, home-cooked meals. And when one lacks motivation or needs a break, they can simply spend time with their family or take a short break to feel recharged. All this combined makes for a healthier and better lifestyle.
This is supported by a survey that asked participants to rate the impact their work environment was having on their health. Remote workers gave an 8.1 as opposed to the 6.1 by office workers. The results also reported that they were taking fewer sick days as compared to their office-going colleagues (1.8 vs 3.1).
Work from opportunities are empowering women all over the world as they usher us into a new era where work- life balance is the driving force.
